Today June 1st , is Say Something Nice Day, A day that we look at our fellow human beings, friends, family, acquaintances and just encourage us to spread love, kindness and cheers to just say something nice. Let’s focus on the good in other
This unofficial holiday is said to have originated in Charleston, South Carolina. According to some, the originators of the holiday were inspired by Mitchell Carnell's book, Say Something Nice - Be a Lifter @ Work. The book inspires people to be lifters. A lifter is described as someone who is positive and always says something nice to whoever they meet. The book inspires people to lift others up, not put them down.
How can we celebrate?
- Celebrate the day by saying something nice to everyone you meet. Remember, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all
- Bottom line: just be nice to friends, foes, and strangers alike, and you will notice that you feel much better about yourself!
- Since we are also in isolation, we can send a whatsapp , text message, video message and surprise people. Surely that would put a smile on the worse frown and really make someone’s day.
- Leave a nice note on a sticky pad or do something nice for a friend, family member, or co-worker.
A little trivia on this day too, the saying “..if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything” is also called Thumperian Law or Thumperian Principle, Thumper being that lovable rabbit character in Bambi , the Disney movie. So let's all just be lifters in this world shall we?
